Successful applicants will be required to complete minimum 18 hour, training and orientation program. Upon completion, candidates may qualify for the V.A.V.P Burlington. Once qualified, the volunteer acting as a part of a crisis team, will respond immediately to any requests for police services, as per their selected shift times. This team will provide short term emotional support and practical assistance to victims.
The volunteers are not counsellors, they are special individuals "advocates" for families in a traumatic crisis situation. Through the commitment and dedication of our volunteers and by working together, we can greatly reduce the overall trauma to victims by providing emotional support, education and referrals to the appropriate agencies.
Once a month meetings are mandatory (2nd Tuesday evening of each month Sept-June) and volunteers must be able to sign up for 6 On-call shifts per month, which means you are available to respond if a coll-out occurs on any of your 6 shifts within 45 minutes
If you are a mature, compassionate person in the Halton/Hamilton Region and would like to volunteer with the VAVP please email the completed application form
