Who We Are

The Victim Assistance Volunteer Program (VAVP) is a volunteer-run organization providing 24/7 support to Burlington’s Ontario Provincial Police.

During shifts, our specially trained volunteers respond to crisis calls in the community. We are equipped to provide on-scene practical and emotional support to those affected by motor vehicle collisions, sudden death, intimate partner violence (IPV), and other traumatic events.

A call comes in

What Happens When We’re Called

A trained volunteer is dispatched to the scene alongside an O.P.P. Officer.

Victims are immediately offered emotional and practical support.

Volunteers remain on-scene to stabilize and assist the victim as long as needed.

Long-term resources and referrals are provided to the victim.

When appropriate, follow-up support is offered after the incident.

For over 25 years, our program has been able to maintain necessary liability insurance and provide ongoing training to volunteers in the Halton Region, all through the help of donors and sponsors like you.

Anyone can be affected by circumstances leaving victims, families and friends in need of emotional support. Your contribution provides support that reaches those who need it most.
